Often, people that are getting a rescue dog are surprised to learn there is an adoption fee. Almost all rescue groups charge an adoption fee. When buying a dog from a breeder or pet store, there is an understanding of the money required to obtain the dog. People often think if they are adopting a rescue dog, there are no costs. This is a misunderstanding.
Dedicated volunteer rescuers are hard at work all day, every day rescuing dogs. The dog is rescued by the group, vetted, assessed, and placed in a safe home and/or environment. They are then listed online where potential adopters can find out about the dog. Adopters are screened, matched to a dog, and adoption takes place. This allows the rescue group to rescue another dog and the process starts all over again.
Our average cost in 2019 to rescue a dog at the shelter was $536.85. Passion 4 Paws adoption fees are between $350-$450 depending on the age of the dog. Each dog that is rescued actually costs the rescue more than the adoption fee.
Sometimes people think rescuing dogs is free of charge, but it is quite the opposite and many of our volunteers take money out of our own pockets to help. Thank you for understanding!
How Adoption Fees are used: Adoptions fees are applied to bills received by our rescue for shelter fees, boarding fees, supplies, transportation fees, vetting fees, micro-chipping fees, preventative medications and dogs that need medical treatments outside general vetting. They also help with various items needed such as crates, bedding, toys, leashes, collars and more.

Please note: Puppies up to 24 weeks may not have their full vaccination series completed. It is the responsibility of the adopter to complete this and provide us with proof of doing so. Although we provide the animal with the necessary medical care appropriate for each situation, we highly recommend following up the adoption with a visit to your veterinarian to discuss any optional vaccinations or procedures that they may recommended. Some puppies may not be micro-chipped as they are too small/young; this is also the responsibility of the Adoptive family.
