Opal is now 10 old (DOB 5-9-18), approx 30 lbs, female, vetted, and spayed. She is house and crate trained, great with other dogs, and is deaf. Although she can’t hear, she knows hand signals for Sit, Down, Touch, and recall when you put out your hand. She has medium energy, is very sweetand extremely food motivated, and loves to learn. She loves other dogs (we will most likely place her with another dog) and like any puppy, could use more training. Opal’s future furever family will get one free training session with A Click Away Dog Training to get you off on the correct foot! She would do very well in an active home with room to run and another dog (or two!) that can show her the ropes. We are not sure how she would do with cats; it would be challenging to correct her given her hearing loss. Opal needs a quieter, consistent home; she could be in a home with older children as long as they are dog savvy and understand her. We would say probably not small children because it would be difficult to explain to them what Opal needs in her environment. She is potty trained, crate trained, and does experience some separation anxiety. She is expressive when she needs or wants something; and she doesn’t like to share her bones. She should only be in a home that will not crate her more than 5 hours; ideally only a couple of hours and people are around often. Deaf dogs can be sensitive to light when left in a crate for long periods of time. Opal is a smart girl! She knows hand commands for Sit, Down, Touch, Recall (using hand or tug on long lead), and Leave It!
