Kenya is 2 years old (approx. DOB tbd), female, and 51 lbs., vetted, is or will be spayed, and micro-chipped. Kenya was found abandoned and homeless in NC. She is very shy; she was scared at the shelter with all of the noise. She is very good with other dogs (submissive), likely good with cats, and would benefit having another dog in the home to help her build her confidence.

Update from her Foster: Kenya is a well-behaved and quieter girl that is shy at first but shows so much love and silliness once she trusts her people. She is fully potty trained, rides well in a car, takes treats gently, walks great on a leash (may even be excellent off lead), allows nail trims, is very good with dogs (submissive but playful), has been around older kids, and even respectful of cats! She has done well staying home alone with our dog too (not destructive). She has learned sit, shake, lay down, and comes right away to her name!

It has been amazing watching this dog come to life and gain so much confidence from a very timid, skinny, shut down state in which she didn’t know how to live in a home or eat out of a bowl and didn’t want us touch her for a week. Now once she feels comfortable with a new environment and people, she is the happiest, cutest little wiggly worm! She wags her tail with her whole body and does dancey feet when she’s excited. 😊 She likes treats, looking at herself in the mirror, rocking to sleep on boats, and sprawling her loooong skinny legs out to nap on the couch.
Sudden movements and loud noises (especially close traffic, dropped dishes, large groups of people shouting such as at a sports game, etc.) still startle her and make her nervous, so a calmer lifestyle would be best. Kenya is a dog that needs patience, but will soon demand head scratches and stick to you like velcro. Because of Kenya’s cautious nature, she is not likely to be a dog that you can take anywhere and everywhere in busy loud public settings, such as walking city streets, going to an outdoor restaurant or brewery, etc. But because she is looking for security and safety, once she finds it in you, she will give you her whole heart. 🐾 ❤️Stay tuned for more information as Kenya is a new rescue!
